3:24 • How to Measure Your Windows
6 Simple Steps
Follow these steps for accurate measurements. Remember, we offer free home measuring if you'd prefer an expert to do it.
Gather Your Tools
You'll need a metal tape measure (not fabric), a pencil, and paper to note down measurements.
Pro Tips:
- Use a metal tape measure for accuracy
- Have someone help hold the tape if needed
Decide: Recess or Exact Fit
Choose whether your blind will fit inside the window recess or outside covering the frame.
Pro Tips:
- Recess fit: Measure inside the window frame
- Exact fit: Measure including the frame area you want covered
Measure the Width
Measure the width at three points: top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest measurement.
Pro Tips:
- Windows aren't always perfectly square
- For recess fit, deduct 1cm from the smallest width
Measure the Drop
Measure the height from where the blind will hang to where you want it to finish.
Pro Tips:
- For recess fit, measure from top of recess to window sill
- For outside fit, add 10-15cm above and below the window
Check for Obstructions
Note any handles, locks, or tiles that might interfere with the blind operation.
Pro Tips:
- Check window handles don't hit the blind
- Consider control side placement
Double Check Everything
Measure each window at least twice. Made-to-measure blinds are custom made to your exact sizes.
Pro Tips:
- Measure in millimeters for best accuracy
- Label each window clearly
